Everyone wants to live on a beautiful planet. However, the environment is threatened by pollution every single day. Thankfully, there are ways to help. Below are some tips you can use to make a difference.

1. Only Buy Recycled Paper

The paper you use for printing, taking notes other things should be recycled. This will save many trees that would have been cut down to produce more paper.

2. Unplug Your Appliances

Even when plugged in, your appliances are still using energy. Reduce this energy consumption by unplugging them when they are not in use. I was looking for more information and found it here.

3. Take Advantage of Renewable Energy Sources

One great way to take advantage of renewable energy sources is by installing solar panels on your house. Not only will this help slash your energy bills, but the government will give you a tax credit for doing so.

4. Cancel Your Junk Mail

Many people receive junk mail they never solicited or even wanted. Investigate how to cancel this mail and stop it from coming to your house. You will save a lot of paper in the process.

5. Donate Your Old Belongings

Old clothes, toys, appliances and other items could be used in the homes of others instead of being sent to the garbage dump.

As a child of this earth (human), you really ought to at least consider the possibility of having a greener lifestyle. You only get one Planet Earth and we should all be doing our best to live with the planet instead of against it.

Sure, there are plenty of big things you can change in your daily life, but that usually seems a little daunting to the uninitiated. That’s why, instead, we have a few smaller things you can do to make a big difference.

1. Look at your energy provider. See if you can get one that draws its energy through green methods. There are plenty out there and sites like http://www.electricitycompaniestexas.com/ are a great place to start your search.

2. If your neighborhood doesn’t have a recycling program, start doing the research and write your local municipality. If you have a local dump in the area that recycles, consider making a trip out there about once a month with your recyclables.

3. Minimize the waste of water, energy and heat. Be mindful when you leave the water running and if you have any high-energy electronics, especially gaming consoles, be sure to unplug them. Even in the off position they can draw power.

If you follow these tips, you’ll be doing more than enough to live in harmony with the Earth. You’ll be living your life like it’s green.

There are few areas of the country as environmentally friendly as Marin County in California. Along with a careful attention to recycling, organic foods and more traditional organizations that keep beaches clean, Marin is home to the Marin Agricultural Land Trust. Based in Point Reyes the Trust is responsible for the protection of farmland throughout Marin along with education on the best ways to keep farmland organic and the community aware.
Over 60 farms are covered by the organization which accounts for more than 44,000 acres. Its mission since 1980 has been to protect farmland from development. With a huge network of consumers in the area willing to support organic farming the Land Trust has found huge success is creating awareness for its farmers and ensuring that future generations know the dangers of irresponsible farming methods.
The Land Trust was spurred into action in the 1970′s in the face of a growing threat to turn thousands of acres of farmland and coastland into an urban sprawl. Now the Land trust has not only kept northern Marin free from the urbanization which has blighted other areas of national beauty but has shown that organic farming and keeping Marin natural can be win-win for all concerned.

People often wonder what it means when they are told they need to be greener in their homes. Some people think this means bringing green plants into their homes, which does help, but there are also many other ways of going green.

Conserving water is one way to go green inside your home. Using the right amounts of water can make your home “green” because it is a huge help to the environment. You can save more than 300 liters of water a week by taking showers instead of baths. Turning the water off while you are brushing your teeth instead of letting it run is another way of conserving water.

Recycling household waste is a good way to save energy and go green. This will help reduce the overflowing landfills and will reduce the damage to our natural resources. Recycle, reuse, and reduce in your home! By reducing, you can buy products that have less packaging on them. Reuse items such as furniture, clothing and computers and take your unwanted items to charity shops. Repair your items if you can instead of replacing them. If you recycle at home, this will take the burden off our landfills and will save so much more energy.

Not all plastic can be recycled, that’s a harsh reality that many trash disposal organizations have had to learn to deal with. A great deal of plastic can be torn apart and repurposed, mixed together to make new and useful products. However, there’s always a large percentage of plastic that makes its way into landfills.

What’s the solution at this point? Well, one option is to repurpose the actual plastic items, turning them into something else, or using them for a different purpose. However, there is another option that’s been gaining popularity; turning plastic that can’t be recycled back into fuel.

Plastic is made with petroleum stocks, which means there’s oil inside it. If the plastic is broken down, it can be reduced back to its component parts. One of those component parts is the petroleum that was originally used to make the plastic in the first place. This reclaimed product can be used to create new plastic, or it can be used to make gasoline or half a dozen other petroleum products. This gives new life to all plastics, and it reduces the need to ever put them into a landfill. In fact, many are being opened up again.

The thought of going green in the grocery store used to have a negative stigma attached to it. People used to think that being green in the grocery store meant only buying tofu and soy products. Today, that has been proven to be false because there are so many ways you can go green at the grocery store.

One way that you can be green in the grocery store is to buy foods that are sold at room temperatures. These products don’t require freezing or refrigeration which requires a lot less energy and when you’re saving energy you’re saving money. Buying organic foods will help you to go green at the grocery store. Organic means that the food has not been treated with pesticides nor has it been processed. Foods that have been sprayed with pesticides are harmful to our environment and the wildlife that live in it.

Another way to go green is to shop at other types of marketplaces that help to support the local farmers. Farmer’s markets and co-ops are great places to shop to help your community be green. When foods have to be processed and packaged, then delivered to the grocery stores, too much energy is wasted and the trucks that transport the foods create so much pollution to our environment. The green way is by buying the foods that you know are grown locally and help support those industries.

10. Falling for “green” labels that are not green! Ever buy something just because it is labeled as “all natural”? Well next time stop and think before you purchase that item, because there are no standards for using the term “natural”. Instead of falling for the all natural labels, look for food certified as “USDA Organic”.

9. Throwing away electronics. Many people don’t realize that the busted pair of headphones they just threw away can be recycled. Most electronics can be recycled so check in your town for your nearest recycling center for electronics!

8. Not staying informed. Science is always changing and any good “Green” thinker should check the news to see what is going on in the world.

7. Buying bottled water. Buying bottled water must be OK now, I mean most companies are making their bottles with less plastic so it is better for the environment. This is wrong, plastic keeps finding ways into our environment and we need to do all we can to lessen the impact of plastic. Besides, filling your own bottle of water at home or at a water fountain is cheaper anyway!

6. Eating meat every single day. Just cutting out meat from one of your meals is a great way to have a positive impact on the planet. Plus, it never hurts to add to your cooking repertoire.

5. Not knowing where your meat and produce comes from. Have you ever thought of the impact the delivery of food has on our environment? Why buy grapes from Argentina when you can buy peaches from Georgia. At the very least, be aware that a lot of our food is coming from very far away. There are local options available. So next time you have a craving for some fresh fruit and veggies try finding your local farmer’s market!

4. Using the dryer, even in the summer. Why use your dryer when the temperature is up? You could save a lot of money by skipping the dryer and hanging your clothes out to dry. It may take a little longer but your wallet may thank you when the next utility bill comes in!

3. Not being involved in the community. Let’s face it, our lives are busy! However, being involved in your community is a great way to be green. It will give you the chance to share your green ideas and make the community more sustainable. Everyone can benefit from that!

2. Using paper napkins. Using paper napkins is just so easy, but not very sustainable. Try switching to cloth towels because they will cause less waste.

1. Getting discouraged. It can be hard being green and seem impossible at times. We have to remember that with education and understanding being “green” will get easier, because society and corporations will change to support their customer’s new values.
